How to change what your business sells

What you told WPMaven at the start is not fixed. Businesses change, and the plan should change with them.

Change a product or a price

  1. Go to Your website and select Manage on your business.
  2. Open your store and edit the product there.

Your operators pick the change up and stop advertising anything you removed.

Change your store currency

Your store sells in one currency. It starts as the currency you saw when you set up your store, which comes from your country unless you picked another one. If you connected a site that already had prices (products, coupons or shipping costs), it keeps the currency it was selling in.

  1. Go to Your website and select Manage on your business.
  2. In Store currency, select Change, pick the new currency and select Continue.
  3. If your store already has prices, choose what happens to them:
    • Keep the same numbers: every price keeps its number in the new currency. A product at €29.00 is then £29.00.
    • Convert at today’s rate: every regular price is converted at the day’s exchange rate and rounded to a price ending in .99 (a whole price in currencies like the Japanese yen). A product at €29.00 is then £24.99. Sale prices, coupons (fixed amounts and minimum or maximum spends) and shipping costs are converted too, without rounding. A shipping cost written as a formula keeps its numbers either way, and the dialog lists it.
  4. Select Change currency.

Converting is not available for every currency: the Argentine and Chilean pesos have no daily rate here, so for them you keep the same numbers, or change the prices in WooCommerce. When today’s rate is missing for a while, Convert says so and you can try again later.

Nothing changes until you confirm, and the result tells you what changed. While the prices are being converted, checkout waits for those moments, so no shopper pays a price that is half converted. Orders you already have keep the currency they were paid in. Prices written in your page text stay as they are, so ask your Co-CEO to update them. Only the account owner or an admin can change the store currency.

Change who you are selling to

Tell your Co-CEO. This is a direction change, not a settings change:

  • “We are selling to restaurants now, not individuals”
  • “Our customers are mostly parents with young children”

Your team rewrites the plan for the coming week around the new audience. See How to tell your Co-CEO what you want changed.

Change the whole business

If what you are doing now has little to do with what you started with, say so plainly: “We are not a bakery any more, we run a cooking school.” Your Co-CEO rebuilds the plan rather than adjusting the old one.
